Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro D.O.C. "Becco Rosso" Poderi Fiorini

Lambrusco is one of the most known red wines of the Italian wine scene, immediately associated to Emilia Romagna and its incredible cold cuts. There are various interpretations of Lambrusco, many denominations and different areas involved in their production (Modena, Reggio Emilia, part of the province of Parma, but also Mantua, in Lombardy).

Today, we focus on one of the D.O.C. of Lambrusco, the one that develops in some municipalities in the province of Modena and that takes the name of "Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro". We tasted and reviewed the Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro "Becco Rosso" by Poderi Fiorini 2021.

The Poderi Fiorini are a family-run winery of Modena, active since 1919. Founded by Giuseppe, today the company is led by the fourth generation of Fiorini family, with Alberto and Cristina. In these 100 years history, the Poderi Fiorini have increased their vine area, their wine offer and improved the wine making practices, always remaining faithful to tradition, closely linked to the production and enhancement of Lambrusco, in different forms and versions.

The winery is located in a very strategic and particular position, in Savignano sul Panaro. It is the only area, in the province of Modena, where there are 3 different D.O.C.: Reno D.O.C., Colli Bolognesi D.O.C. and Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro D.O.C.

The winery’s production is concentrated on the latter. There are also several proposals of the D.O.C. Lambrusco di Sorbara, thanks to the land owned in Sozzigalli, in the town of Soliera, in the heart of the D.O.C.

In some of its 12 hectares of vineyards in Savignano sul Panaro, on hilly, clayey soils rich in silt, the Lambrusco di Grasparossa grapes of the "Becco Rosso" Fiorini are cultivated according to the bio principles.

Lambrusco Grasparossa grapes are harvested strictly by hand, to select the best bunches. They are immediately transferred to special temperature controlled containers for fermentation, and then they are subjected to a second fermentation. Before being put on the market, the wine is aged in steel, to preserve the original aromas of the grape.

Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro D.O.C. "Becco Rosso" Poderi Fiorini

Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro D.O.C. "Becco Rosso" Poderi Fiorini 2021 has a purple red color with violet reflections and a brilliant foam. The nose is typical and characteristic: we perceive hints of violet and geranium, notes of wild strawberries and raspberry, with vinous sensations. The palate is lively and savory, all characteristics that enhance the freshness. It shows a slight tannin, another typical trait of the wines of the Denomination, remarkable lightness (11% vol) and excellent persistence with a bitter note on the finish.

It is excellent with cured meats and with the typical recipes of Emilian cuisine. Ideal also for aperitifs.
