The name of the Colosi family is one of those that have given greater prestige to Sicilian enology since the seventies, placing itself as one of the promoters of the wines of the Aeolian Islands in the world and the affirmation of the Malvasia delle Lipari wine. Today, Pietro Colosi, with his parents, leads a winery recognized everywhere for the quality and the typicality of its production.

Colosi has vineyards in Sicily, in the province of Messina, and 10 prestigious hectares between Capo Faro and Porri, on the island of Salina, one of the seven islands of the Aeolian archipelago (Alicudi, Filicudi, Lipari, Panarea, Salina, Stromboli and Vulcano), off the coast of northern Sicily, recognized in 2000 World Heritage by UNESCO. The cultivation of vines is concentrated on Lipari Island, the largest, on Vulcano and Salina. Here there are favorable conditions for the cultivation of the main local varieties. In particular, Salina is considered among the best for exposure and the volcanic nature of the soil.

In Salina, Colosi cultivates vines typical of the island tradition, Catarratto, Corinto Nero, Nerello Cappuccio, Inzolia, Nerello Mascalese and Malvasia, on the classic terraces supported by dry stone walls, a distinctive feature of the viticulture of the Aeolian Islands. Among all these varieties, the Malvasia grape variety is the symbol of the winery, from which are obtained really excellent wines.

One of these is Malvasia delle Lipari D.O.C. Naturale "Nurah" Colosi 2016. It is made from Malvasia (95%) and Corinto Nero (5%) grapes. The grapes, harvested late and in an advanced state of ripeness, during the second decade of September, to ensure a high sugar concentration, are subjected to soft pressing. The must is fermented in stainless steel tanks, at a controlled temperature for a period of about 20/25 days. The aging takes place, for about 1 year, always in steel tanks, to preserve the primary aromas, and then continues in the bottle for about 4 months.

The appellation "Natural" that accompanies the name of the wine is due to the traditional natural drying method with late harvest of the grapes. Now, let's get to the tasting.

Malvasia delle Lipari D.O.C. Naturale "Nurah" Colosi

The "Nurah" Malvasia delle Lipari D.O.C. Naturale Colosi 2016 has a dark golden color with hints of topaz. The bouquet is typical and unmistakable: fruity aromas of apricot, banana and tropical fruits, are accompanied by sweet notes of honey and vanilla. On the palate it gives warm sensations, supported by an excellent softness. The natural sweetness of this wine is mitigated by a almond finish, which makes the sip decidedly more elegant, fine and really pleasing.

The peculiarity and uniqueness of the product suggests its use as a meditation wine, but nothing prevents it from being brought to the table to embellish a dessert or with blue cheeses.
