The Cooperativa Cantina Cinque Terre was founded in 1973 thanks to the initiative of a group of local winemakers. Its objectives have always been to enhance every characteristic aspect of the Cinque Terre landscape, traditional agricultural activities and its products, protecting the biodiversity of the territory, preserving the practice of heroic viticulture and its distinctive elements and traits, such as terraces, dry stone walls, rack trains etc. etc., and spreading local food and wine products.

After the recognition of the D.O.C. Cinque Terre, in 1973, the Cooperative became the protagonist of the affirmation of the wines of the Cinque Terre in every corner of the world and of the promotion of its unique and incredible landscape, designed by colored houses, small fishing ports, picturesque cliffs and steep vineyards overlooking the sea, which demonstrate the balance and harmony achieved by the interaction between man and nature. Also thanks to its work of enhancement, in 1997, the Cinque Terre have been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Cooperative has 220 members and about 46 hectares of vineyards in the most enchanting areas of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, the five villages of the Cinque Terre, in the province of La Spezia.

Every year, the Cooperativa Cantina Cinque Terre produces about 200,000 bottles, in addition to other typical products of the Cinque Terre, oil, honey, pesto etc. etc., which contribute to make this corner of Paradise known all over the world. Among the wines produced there are the white wines Cinque Terre D.O.C., in the subareas "Costa de Sera", "Costa de Campu" and "Costa da Posa", and the white wine from dried grapes "Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà", in the past called "reinforced" for the sugar content of the grapes, "reinforced" because of the drying of the grapes.

As we have previously written, it is a wine that represents the essence of the enology of the Cinque Terre and a piece of its culture and tradition, the result of the blending of dried grapes of the white berried varieties typical of the place: Albarola, Bosco and Vermentino. That of Cantina Cinque Terre is obtained from a careful selection of local grapes, dried naturally for about two months on racks. Fermentation is accompanied by the maceration of the must on the skins in order to give the wine greater complexity. Aging takes place in small oak barrels for 12 months.

Let’s taste the 2020 vintage.

Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà D.O.C. Cantina Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà D.O.C. Cantina Cinque Terre 2020 is golden yellow in color to anticipate the value and refinement of the wine. The olfactory and gustatory tests are impressive and exciting. We had never been able to perceive such a harmonious and special set of sensations so elegant and varied. Scents include hints of citrus, dried fruit, sweet honey notes, herbaceous and saline-marine sensations. The taste is sweet, always pleasant thanks to a light fresh-savory note that is the background to the sip. Structure, body and alcohol content (14% vol.) are very important. Incredible persistence, with a long and almond finish.

In our opinion it is a wine that should be drunk away from meals to appreciate the many nuances. To be served for special and important occasions, just as by local tradition.
