Cinque Terre Costa da Posa D.O.C. Cantina Cinque Terre

In the Cinque Terre, viticulture has a centuries-old tradition and the production and sale of wine has been, for a long time, the main source of sustenance for the local population. The winegrowers of this area have become the protagonists of an admirable work of construction of terraces with dry stone walls, to make cultivable the steep lands that from the hills go over the sea. In this way, they have preserved the viticultural biodiversity of the Cinque Terre, allowing us to appreciate its unique wine products.

Today, the Cooperativa Cantina Cinque Terre promotes this biodiversity, enhancing the typical white wines of the Cinque Terre and the iconic "passito" wine of the Cinque Terre, the Sciacchetrà.

In today’s review we bring you to discover one of these wines produced by Cantina Cinque Terre: Cinque Terre Costa da Posa D.O.C. Cantina Cinque Terre 2022.

The Cooperativa Cantina Cinque Terre was founded in 1973 by a group of winemakers driven by the desire to enhance the local viticulture, more generally, local food and wine products and protect and preserve the biodiversity of the territory. Among the objectives of the Cooperative we emphasize the preservation of all those aspects and practical elements that characterize the heroic viticulture of the Cinque Terre, such as the typical terraces and dry stone walls, the particular water network and the train system designed for steep slopes.

Over the years, the Cooperativa Cantina Cinque Terre has favored the success and spread of the wines of the D.O.C. Cinque Terre, recognized in its year of foundation, 1973, and it has favored the process of recognition of this territory as UNESCO World Heritage Site, as a "cultural landscape" of first national and international importance, in 1997.

Today, the Cooperative includes 220 members and covers about 46 hectares of vineyards, located among the five villages that characterize the Cinque Terre, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, along the Riviera Ligure di Levante. In these areas, Cantina Cinque Terre produces the white wines Cinque Terre D.O.C., with its sub-zones "Costa de Sera", "Costa de Campu" and "Costa da Posa", as well as the "Cinque Terre Sciacchetrà".

The white wine we tasted is Cinque Terre Costa da Posa D.O.C. Cantina Cinque Terre, produced from grapes of typical vines such as Bosco, Albarola and Vermentino, in Volastra, in the municipality of Riomaggiore, in the province of Spezia. The production process follows the strict rules of the D.O.C.

We drank the wine of 2022 vintage.

The Cinque Terre Costa da Posa D.O.C. Cantina Cinque Terre 2022 has a straw yellow color, with charming and crystalline golden reflections. The nose and palate reveals the typical and unique features of the area where it is produced. We perceive very fine and elegant floral scents of wild flowers, which in Spring characterize the vegetation of the Cinque Terre, and herbaceous scents, with notes that recall the broom and acacia honey. The taste stands out for freshness and flavor, enhanced by salty and marine sensations, which refer to the nearby Ligurian Sea. All enclosed in a round/soft body and in an important structure, which creates a perfect balance of taste. Also the alcohol content is important (13.5%) and it is perceived with every sip.

This wine is perfect with tasty pasta dishes with fish or seafood condiments, always rich in flavors and important in structure. Excellent with the classic pasta with pesto.
