Brachetto d'Acqui Cantina Alice Bel Colle

We must tell you that we have a preference for those appellations and those wines that represent something unique in the local and international wine scene. There aren't many sweet, aromatic and naturally sparkling red wines. For this reason, we believe that wines like Brachetto d'Acqui should always find a place in the list of our favorite wines. Specifically, we really like the one produced by the Alice Bel Colle winery. To discover this oenological pearl we went to a very small town in the province of Alessandria. A wonderful place and an excellent wine. Yes, it was worth it ...

Today's review concerns the Brachetto d'Acqui by Cantina Alice Bel Colle, 2021 vintage.

Cantina Alice Bel Colle is a cooperative winery, founded in 1955, which today has 100 members. It is located in a very small village, with just over 700 inhabitants, in Alto Monferrato. We are in Alice Bel Colle, in the province of Alessandria, near Acqui Terme. A pleasant place, where the vineyards dominate the hilly panorama, demonstrating its extraordinary vocation for viticulture.

The vineyards cultivated by the members of the winery extend for approximately 200 hectares. The dominant varieties are those typical of this area of Piedmont, precisely because the intention of the founders of the Alice Bel Colle winery was to enhance the characteristic vines of Alto Monferrato and Alice Bel Colle. In particular, the area is notable for the cultivation of aromatic vines such as Moscato Bianco and Brachetto, and one of the most iconic Piedmontese black grape varieties: the Barbera vine. The winery's production is concentrated on these three varieties and their various interpretations, to which are added excellent versions of Dolcetto, Cortese and Chardonnay.

Cantina Alice Bel Colle is known for its excellent sweet wines made from Moscato Bianco and Brachetto grapes. Moreover, this small village has been known since ancient times for the qualitative cultivation of the grapes of the two vines, especially Brachetto, of which it is considered one of the best areas within the D.O.C.G. Brachetto d'Acqui production area. In short, to search for the best Brachetto d'Acqui we relied on the "Brachetto winery".

Brachetto d'Acqui Cantina Alice Bel Colle

The Brachetto d'Acqui Cantina Alice Bel Colle that you find on our wine sales site is the sweet and slightly sparkling version. It is obtained purely from Brachetto grapes, which, after the harvest, undergo light pressing. The must obtained is subjected to maceration for approximately 48 hours at low temperatures, in such a way as to preserve and concentrate the typical aromas of the vine, which we then find in the glass. This is followed by clarification, decantation, alcoholic fermentation in an autoclave, partially interrupted to preserve the typical sweetness of the vine, and second fermentation to generate the characteristic effervescence of this wine. Finally, the nectar ages for approximately 2 months in the bottle.

Let's taste it.

The Brachetto d'Acqui Cantina Alice Bel Colle 2021 is a rather light ruby red color. On the nose it is, as we expected, intense and aromatic, with the typical hints of rose and geranium, red fruit, in particular strawberries and raspberries, and musky sensations. It's really pleasant to smell! The taste is delicately sweet, lively, with good freshness and very light tannins. The sip is delicate and easy to drink, just like a Brachetto d'Acqui should be!

We pair this Brachetto d'Acqui Cantina Alice Bel Colle with dry pastries, fruit-based desserts or with the fruit itself.
