The Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio has rightfully won a place in the annals of Italian winemaking, and is acknowledged and praised throughout the world. "Haec iuga quam Nysae colles plus Bacchus amavit" (Bacchus loved these hills more than his native hills of Nisa) wrote Martialis, since the grapes from this area have an unmistakable flavour and aroma. The reputation of this wonderful part of the world and its wines has inspired myths and legends. The name comes from a legend: Lucifer, driven out of Paradise, took a part of it with him when he fell, he laid it where the Gulf of Naples is now. The Lord, grieving for having lost such a beautiful part of Paradise, began to cry, and where the tears fell, the vine, whose wine was called "Lacryma Christi," arose miraculously. Lacryma Christi Vesevus is made from Piedirosso grapes and, to a small extent, Aglianico harvested by hand in vineyards planted on volcanic soils with the typical black color. It has an intense, broad and consistent aroma. It offers fruity aromas with strong notes of plum, cherry, strawberry and spicy hints including pepper. The taste is dry and persistent. It is a balanced and harmonious wine, soft and with fine tannins. Contains sulphites. Produced by Sorrentino Vini S.r.l. - via Rio, 26 - Boscotrecase (Napoli) - Italy.

THE REVIEW OF LACRYMA CHRISTI DEL VESUVIO SORRENTINO BY LUCA STROPPA

The producer

The Sorrentino family has cultivated vines on the slopes of Vesuvius for three generations. The vines belonging to the estate are all autochthonous ungrafted vines. This thanks to the particular characteristics of the soil, rich in black lava. Giuseppe Sorrentino continues the work carried out in respect of tradition by his father Paolo, applying new organic farming techniques that make the Sorrentino company one of the most active and lively wineries in the search for the quality of the wines produced.
