The Kerner grape is the result of a cross between Riesling and Schiava, realized for the first time, experimentally, in 1929 by August Herold. It is an aromatic white grape variety. It was named after Justinus Kerner, German physician and poet, who wrote poems dedicated to wine. It is a vine that has excellent resistance to cold and was introduced in Alto Adige in the seventies getting the DOC in 1993. Martini & Sohn has chosen to vinify Kerner in purity, obtaining an aromatic wine with a strong character, with a pale yellow color with greenish hues, with a delicate bouquet, dry and full, with light tones of nutmeg, freshly cut grass, fresh flowers, spices and white pepper. Contains sulphites. Produced by Cantina vini K.Martini & Sohn sas - Via Lamm, 28 - I-39057, Cornaiano (BZ) - Italy.

The producer

This family company was founded in 1979 by Gabriel Martini and his father Karl. Both had been working for several years in the wine sector before deciding to start their own business. Gabriel Martini describes his company as follows: “ To create a winery from nothing was a great deal of hard work. The first bottles were filled, closed and labelled by hand. As we are not big landowners we are very pleased that there are many loyal farmers who bring us their grapes for processing. In the vineyards both we and our suppliers pay attention to high quality. In the winery itself it is entirely up to us to produce good wine from the precious grapes. From the start our business was very small, so there was actually no alternative other than to let our wines speak for themselves. Only quality and friendly service justify the existence of a small family company! In the future we would like to continue working along these lines without making a philosophy of it, we prefer to be practical in our work.”
