When the dogrose berries reach the full splendour of their colour, it is the ideal moment for to harvest the Nebbiolo grapes that grow on the vines which have taken root among the rocks of the sub-area of Valtellina Superiore. Giuseppe Rainoldi is proud of this wine which is only produced in the very best years. Fermentation and maturation takes place in new Allier French oak barrels slowly over a period of fifteen months. Subsequently, and of vital importance, the wine is laid in bottles to refine for a minimum of twelve months in chilly, dark cellars before being put on the market. It is a ruby colour with a delicate and ethereal aroma of hazelnuts and a hint of oak. It has a bold, well-balanced taste with well-judged tannins.

The producer

Valtellina is a noble wine-making area with ancient traditions. Traditions that are not ignored by the wine-makers at Rainoldi. Considerable experience and a well-developed knowledge of wine-making techniques allow Rainoldi to fully realise the potential of the Valtellinesi grapes and obtain superior wines with delicate and refined characteristics.

Best with

This wine is an excellent accompaniment to roast meat, game and mature cheese.

How to serve it

In order to allow the wine to breathe and to fully appreciate its rounded character it is recommended to open the bottle two or three hours before serving and decant the wine into a large carafe. It should be served at 18 - 20 degrees centigrade. The best glasses to use are clear, transparent crystal goblets.

How to keep

This wine can be aged for a very long time. If it is kept well, it has an average conservation period of more than twenty years. The bottles should be laid horizontally in a cool, dark, humid wine-cellar.
