This red D.O.C.G wine is obtained from the Prugnolo Gentili grape, which is a clone on Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero and Mammolo, grown on vines with the best exposure that enjoy an excellent climate. Great care is shown during the wine-making process and the subsequent refinement (two years in oak barrels and then several months in bottles) because these grapes express all the potential of Montepulciano. The wine is a grainy red colour with n orangey reflection. It has a strong, fine bouquet with a hint of sweet violets and red fruit, a robust body, and a dry taste with light tannins. Contains sulphites. Produced by Carletti Poliziano - Via Fontago, 1 - 53045, Montepulciano Stazione (Siena) - Italy.

The producer

Dott. Federico Carletti's rural company is situated at Montepulciano Stazione, in the heart of the area with the same name. It is considered a point of reference for all the wine-makers in the region. The approximate 100 acres of vineyards owned by the company are situated in a particularly favourable position that varies between 280 and 440 meters above sea-level. Grapes of the very best quality for the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, and other great, traditional wines such as Vin Santo, are cultivated using a simple, older version of the Guyot system. Particular attention in paid not only to the grapevines, but also to the wine-making process and subsequent ageing, with full respect for older traditions, but also making use of the best of modern technology.

Best with

This elegant, structured wine is particularly suitable for flavoursome second courses and full-flavoured cheeses.

How to serve it

The wine should be served at 18 degrees centigrade. The best glasses to use are clear, transparent crystal goblets.

How to keep

If kept well, this wine has an average conservation period of ten years. The bottles should be laid horizontally in a cool, dark, humid wine-cellar.
