This wine is the result of the careful and exclusive selection of the Barbera variety of grapes, which are grown on the company's hillside vines. After a brief period of maturation in contact with the grapeskin, the wine is aged for about ten months, partly in 500 litre oak vats, partly in 35 hectolitre oak barrels. It is a deep ruby red colour, which is inclined to become grainy as the wine ages. It has a fine, deep, wine-like bouquet and a dry taste which is full and well-proportioned. Contains sulphites. Produced by Azienda Agricola Conterno Fantino - Via Ginestra, 1 - 12065, Monforte d'Alba - Italy.

The producer

The company was formed in 1982 out of a partnership between Claudio and Diego Conterno and Guido Fantio. This partnership brought together new ideas about land management skills and winery techniques. Claudio and Diego concerned themselves with the vines while Guido took responsibility for the winery. In 1994 the company took up residence in Bricco di Bastia in Monforte d'Alba in a panoramic position which looks out on the wide arc of the Piedmontese Alps. Since the formation of the company special attention has been paid to the quality of the wine produced, and, as a result of the skill, diligence and dedication of its owners, the company is now one of the leading wine producers in Piedmont.

Best with

This wine is the perfect accompaniment to the Piedmont dish "bagna cuada", and to boiled meats, soup and cheese.

How to serve it

This wine should be served at about 16 - 18 degrees centigrade. The best glasses to use are clear, transparent crystal goblets.

How to keep

If kept well, this wine has an average life of five to six years. The bottles should be laid horizontally in a cool, dark, humid wine-cellar.

Reviews

An elegant BarberaReview by Joey
Quality
The elegance of this Barbera, despite an important structure, is its best characteristic. The quality of the wine is remarkable and the price is correct. (Posted on 5/16/2023)
