Tintilia is considered the grape variety most closely tied to the history and traditions of the rural culture of Molise. Until a few decades ago, its origin was uncertain. Recent studies have now shown that Tintilia arrived in Molise in the second half of the 18th century during the Spanish rule of the Bourbons. Its name comes from the word “tinto,” which in Spanish means "red." By the end of the 19th century, it was the most widely cultivated variety in Molise. Unfortunately, after World War II, the gradual abandonment of vineyards led to its near disappearance. Cantine Cipressi has succeeded in recovering and promoting this rare native grape variety. Tintilia Macchiarossa is truly a special wine. It has an intense, bright ruby red color. On the nose, balsamic and spicy aromas stand out, with a pleasant hint of sour cherries and wild berries. On the palate, it is soft, full-bodied, round, and enveloping, with a warm and welcoming sensation that makes a difference. It has remarkable aging potential: it shows its best qualities after several years! Contains sulphites. Produced by Claudio Cipressi Vignaiolo - Contrada Montagna 5/b - 86030, San Felice del Molise (CB) - Italy.
The producer
The Cipressi winery is located in the hills of Molise at 500 meters above sea level close to the sea: a perfect location for growing quality grapes. The owners have been active in the wine sector for three generations. In the last years they have paid special attention to the cultivation and vinification of the Tintilia grape, an ancient, autochthonous variety that had almost disappeared. Today the Cantine Cipressi is the largest grower of this rare variety that accounts for only 3% of the regional vineyards.
