This red comes from a careful selection of Pinot Nero grapes harvested by hand in small wood boxes in 15 years old vineyards owned by the company. 12-14 days maceration in steel tanks at controlled temperature follows a soft pressing. One year maturation takes place in Allier barriques. The wine is then thinned for another year in bottle. The colour is rubin, almost garnet red. The perfume reminds currants, vanilla and liquorice. In the mouth it is elegant, with intense fruit flavours, and it shows smooth tannins. Contains sulphites. Produced by Frecciarossa s.r.l. Società Agricola - Via Fratelli Vigorelli, 141 - 27045, Casteggio (PV) - Italy.

The producer

The first news about this winery date back to the eighteenth century, but the villa, as it is nowdays, was build in 1860. The Frecciarossa company is located on the hills of Casteggio in Oltrepò Pavese, also called "Old Piedmont". The vineyards are settled at the beginning of the hills, in an area with a perfect microclimate and terroir. The name Frecciarossa, comes from "fraccia", that in local dialect means "landslide", and "rossa", that means "red", because of the colour of the ground. The term Fracchiarossa is also recorded in the old military maps of the zone. In 1923 Giorgio Odero became the owner of the company. In 1934 Frecciarossa granted as official supplier of the Italian Royal Family. Since then both the vineyards and the cellar have been restructured to meet nowadays standards.
