Pecorino is a white grape variety. It is widespread in Abruzzo since 200 AD. Among the native vines is the one that reaches full maturity earlier. It seems that the Pecorino owes its name to an ancient custom of the shepherds from Abruzzo. These in fact during the "transhumance" toward the south, in search of fresh pastures and milder temperatures, leaved their flocks to graze freely under the arbor of vines, encouraging their natural fertilization. The entire harvest is done by hand. The wine is made by maceration at low temperature before destemming the grapes, followed by alcoholic fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. It has straw yellow color with golden hues, the nose has intense notes of ripe peach and green tea. It is a well structured wine with small saline accents and a long finish on the palate.

The producer

The Di Berardino winery was born from an intuition of the owner, Fausto Di Berardino, with the intent to promote the wines through the beauty of the Abruzzo region, as well as the culture and traditions of the place, with modern and innovative methods. The vineyards, all owned by the company, cover a total of eight acres, on the hills of the Valle di Fonte Vecchia near the village Villa Caldari in the province of Chieti. These are sunny lands, once crossed by shepherds with their flocks headed to the south in search of greener pastures. All soils have converted recently from traditional agricultural lands to organic fields, thus receiving the certification from ICEA, entity that controls the production of organic soils of the area. After a careful selection of grapes, the fruits are harvested by hand without the aid of machinery.

How to keep

To be kept always in the dark at a cool temperature, not necessarily in a horizontal position, since it is a wine ready to drink.
