A great Barolo from Langhe, Magnum format, comes in a beatiful wooden box. It has been awarded several times with the "2 bicchieri" by the Gambero Rosso Vini d'Italia guide!
A wine of great class which ages well, of a brilliant garnet red with distinctive orange tinges which intensify with age. Of an intense and persistent fragrance, of full austere and velvety flavour, rightly tannic, with a lingering "goudron" and spicy final taste. Derived from the Nebbiolo grapes from the Costa Grimaldi vineyard owned by the Einaudi estate, facing Barolo in the Terlo area. Matured, first in casks of 30 hl. made of Slavic oak and French Allier , then bottled for the final refinement. The good alcohol content and the tannic characteristics guarantee a life in bottle of up to 25-35 years in the best years. With time it acquires complexity as the ethereal aromas of spices, truffles and leather substitute the fruitiness of the first years of its life. Contains sulphites. Produced by Poderi Luigi Einaudi Az. Agricola Srl - Borgata Gombe 31 - Cascina Tecc. - 12063, Dogliani (Cn) - Italy.
The producer
Poderi Luigi Einaudi is the oldest wine-making company in Dogliani. In 1897 Luigi Einaudi bought the San Giacomo estate in the Dogliani area. He was 23. The property, which included an old chapel and a ruined eighteenth century edifice, measured 40 "giornate piemontesi", which is about 15 hectares of land. It was bought for 32,351 lira, most of which was borrowed. The family enlarged the property as far as Barolo.
Best with
It is an excellent accompaniment for substantial, richly flavoured dishes, and is particularly suitable for braised or roast red meat and game, truffles and mature, spicy cheeses.
How to keep it
This is a wine that can be aged for a very long time, over 30 years if it is kept in the right conditions, the bottles should be laid horizontally in a cool, dark, humid wine-cellar.
How to serve it
It is recommended to open the bottle at least an hour before serving and decant the wine into a large carafe so that it has a chance to air and its rotundity can be appreciated in full, the wine should be served at 18-20 degrees centigrade in clear, transparent crystal goblets.
