Barbera "Vigna Vecchia" Project

Ca del Grifone It was last August when Ing. Andrea Gaetano Gatti, managing director of Wineshop.it, together with Fabio and Daniela Vinciguerra, owners of the Ca’ del Grifone estate, decided to create a special selection of Barbera d’Asti called ‘Vigna Vecchia’.

The idea came right after a pleasant lunch under an old oak tree: creating a special selection of Barbera d’Asti using exclusively selected grapes coming from the oldest vineyard of the estate: a little over 1 acre of vines, planted in 1962 (long before the Vinciguerra family took over the estate) and located in ‘Bric dei Boschi’ in the town of Fontanile (Asti). The grapes produced by these old vines are of an incredible quality but extremely limited in quantity, and therefore represent the ideal 'ingredient' for the making of this limited production of superb quality bottles.

Wineshop.it has decided to support the creation of this Cru of Barbera produced only with the grapes obtained from the estate’s oldest vineyard, being the exclusive distributor and offering the possibility to follow step-by-step the making of this wine. Every important phase of the wine-making process will have a detailed description on Wineshop.it, starting from the harvest and going all the way to the bottling of the Barbera d'Asti d.o.c. Superiore 2006 'Vigna Vecchia'.
