Sforzato di Valtellina takes its name from the characteristic drying process of the grapes, that in this case come from Nebbiolo vines. The quality of the product mainly depends on the soil and favorable climatic conditions. The color is garnet red. The nose is fruity with aromas of berries, tobacco, nutmeg and liquorice. The palate is full bodied, with very present but velvety tannins.

The producer

Contadi Gasparotti winery harvests the grapes exclusively from company-owned vineyards. The latter are located mostly around the village of Tirano covering an area of 5 hectares. The Gasparotti family loves the French culture and invests the most part of its efforts in cultivating the vineyards, which are considered essential to produce an excellent wine. Starting from a very good and healthy raw material increases the probability to have an excellent final product. That is why the Contadi Gasparotti cradles its grapes using innovative methods with great environmental awareness. During the last years the company invested in its vineyards, turning a 2 hectares area in a completely mechanized lot, using recyclable materials and concentrating on the selection of the best Nebbiolo grapes. However, the charming vineyards, supported by dry stone walls, can be still admired. Ancient vineyards produce fine grapes that will be glorified in the company’s wine cellars. This is the unequalled Valtellina, where a vineyard is a small piece of earth near the rocks that can be reached only on foot.

How to serve it

Serve at 14-16°C in transparent crystal goblets. Open the bottle preferably half an hour before the service.

How to keep

The bottles should be laid down flat in a dark and cool place at the correct level of humidity.
