Hand-harvest takes places when the Sagrantino grapes reach the appropriate levels of phenolics and sugar. Estate vineyards are located at 405 metres above sea level. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in casks and it is followed by malolactic fermentation in new French barriques where the wine undergoes maturation for 18-24 months. Finally, after being blended, Taccalite undergoes a 10-12 months period of bottle-ageing. Color is deep almost black ruby red with violet tinges. It shows notes of blackberry, red currant, mint and oriental spices. It is very focused in the mouth showing a deep and polished texture with firm tannins. This wine beautifully displays the character of its territory and wine variety.

The producer

The company is named after Gustavo Tiburzi, Cavaliere del Lavoro, founder and owner. It is located at Montepennino di Montefalco, approximately three kilometres from the historical town centre, in an excellent position in the heart of the DOC area. The company's vineyards produce only red grapes and are located at 405 metres above sea level.

Best with

This wine is the perfect accompaniment for roasts and braised meat. It is excellent with truffles and mature, spicy cheeses.

How to serve it

It is recommended to uncork the bottle two or three hours before drinking. The wine should be served at 18-20 degrees centigrade. The best glasses to use are clear, transparent crystal goblets.

How to keep

This wine can be aged for many years if it is kept in an optimal environment. The bottles should be laid horizontally in a cool, dark, humid wine-cellar.
