Sagrantino, Merlot, Sangiovese: these three viticultural varieties form in equal parts an extraordinary blend. The very low yield per hectare (under 50 quintals), the handheld grape-harvesting in small cases, the fermentation in thermo conditioned stainless steel, the barrel maturation in new French oak for a period of 20 months (always separated), the blend in stainless steel, and the permanence in bottle for 12 months characterize this wine. The colour leaves an intense red violet imprint. In the nose the three varieties interlace in a balanced way by showing perfumes of red currant, cherry and blackberry. In the mouth the smoothness of Merlot, the freshness of Sangiovese, the tannic aspect of Sagrantino are wrapped up in a unique way giving the wine a very big depth and making it very drinkable.

The producer

Mauro Blasi is a young Umbrian vine grower. He started his activity in 2000 by planting the first three hectares in Umbertide (North Umbria). At the moment, the hectares are twelve, eight with red berry (Sangiovese, Merlot , Cabernet Sauvignon, Sagrantino, Alicante and Syrah) and four with white berry (Chardonnay, Sauvignon blanc, Gewürztraminer). The produced bottles are very few and divided into four types: three red wines and a white wine, for a total of 20,000 bottles.

Best with

This wine is the perfect accompaniment for roasts and braised meat. It is excellent with truffles and mature, spicy cheeses.

How to serve it

It is recommended to uncork the bottle two or three hours before drinking. The wine should be served at 18-20 degrees centigrade. The best glasses to use are clear, transparent crystal goblets.

How to keep

This wine can be aged for many years if it is kept in an optimal environment. The bottles should be laid horizontally in a cool, dark, humid wine-cellar.
