Lively red wine obtained from the traditional vinification of Croatina grapes and, in a minimum part, Barbera, Uva Rara and Vespolina grapes. The colour is purple red with decided violet reflections. The perfume is slightly winey, fruity and of fragrant intensity. On a jammy background there is the pleasant discovery of traditional woodland fruits (blackberries, raspberries and blackcurrants). The flavour, still slightly tannic, is full and decided with a pleasant aftertaste of bitter almond.

The producer

San Giorgio is a company that tends thirty hectares of undulating land, land made up of ancient oak forests and stunning hillsides situated at a height of 200-250 meters. It is here, on vineyards exposed at midday, that the company cultivates carefully selected vines for the production of typical Oltrepò wines. These grapevines, which have a studied lineage and are often the result of careful cross-breeding, bear witness to the creative flair of a company and its determination to pursue new ideas, new initiatives. The company has been producing wine since 1500 and was relaunched twenty years ago by Sig. Perdomini, a Milanese entrepreneur. It is one of the oldest wine-making companies in the region, and once belonged to Sauli di Genova, a noble family of marquises.

Best with

The wine goes well with local dressed pork products and is an excellent accompaniment to pig’s trotters, cotechino (a type of spiced pork sausage) and mixed boiled meats.

How to serve it

To serve between 16-18 degrees centigrade, in a crystal transparent , smooth and colourless goblet.

How to keep

The bottles have to be collocated horizontally in a cool, damp and dark cellar.
