This Barbera comes from a vineyard that is over forty years old and is refined in casks for eighteen months. It has a deep, heavily-loaded ruby colour and a characteristic aroma that has a note of ripe fruit, redcurrants and blackberries, and sweet spices, particularly vanilla. It tastes warm, soft and fleshy with setulose tannins and a long finish.

The producer

This company is located in Diano d' Alba in the centre of Langhe next to the area of Barolo. This has always been wine-making country and is famous for its Dolcetto. Matteo Alario comes from a family of wine-makers that have been dedicated to vine cultivation for some time, and the grapes produced used to be sold to traders and large companies. The company only began to bottle its own wines in 1988. It is largely due to the enthusiasm and profuse care of Matteo Alario that the wines produced by this young company have reached a point of excellence, in terms of quality, that is normally only attained by companies with considerably more experience behind them.

Best with

This wine is an excellent accompaniment to red meat, in particular roast beef and pork.

How to serve it

This wine should be served at 18 degrees centigrade in clear, transparent crystal goblets.

How to keep

If it is kept well, this wine has an average conservation period of five to eight years. The bottles should be laid horizontally in a cool, dark, humid wine-cellar.
