For seven hundred years the Frescobaldi family has been engaged in the production of wine. Their work and passion have been very important in the history of Italian and worldwide viticulture. During the nineteenth century, the Frescobaldi family were the first to understand the possibility of cultivating on the suitable lands of Tuscany great international vines such as Carbernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir. In the following centuries, Vittorio, Ferdinando and Leonardo Frescobaldi contributed to the growth of the winery and made Tuscan enology a global excellence.

Today, Lamberto Frescobaldi leads a world-class winery, with nine estates, located in the most suitable areas of Tuscany, perfect for the production of the best Tuscan D.O.C. and D.O.C.G. Castello Nipozzano, Tenuta Perano, Tenuta Castiglioni, Castello Pomino, Tenuta CastelGiocondo, Tenuta Ammiraglia, Gorgona, Remole and Tenuta Calimaia are located in the best areas of the D.O.C. Pomino, D.O.C.G. Chianti Rufina, Colli Fiorentini and Chianti Classico, of the D.O.C.G. Brunello di Montalcino and the D.O.C. Rosso di Montalcino, the D.O.C.G. Morellino di Scansano etc. etc.

The Brunello di Montalcino CastelGiocondo, object of our review, is born in the estate of the same name, in the south-west of Montalcino, in the province of Siena, at an altitude of 300 meters. It is one of the first properties of the winery, where the Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C. and Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. wines take shape. This area has a climate favorable to viticulture and it has a great variety of soils, mainly clayey and sandy, which give its wines a multiplicity of properties and great complexity.

The 2017 vintage was characterized by temperatures above average, but not excessive, and perfect exposure to light, with an excellent ripening of the grapes.

Sangiovese grapes, the basis of Brunello di Montalcino CastelGiocondo, were in perfect condition at the time of harvest, which took place manually after careful selection. Alcoholic fermentation, with maceration, took place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, followed by malolactic fermentation, to strengthen the biological stability of the wine and increase its complexity. Finally, this Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. was aged in wood (about 36 months in barriques and Slavonian oak barrels) and then in bottle (at least 4 months).

Now it’s time to taste!
